the mare de déu de l’alba

The Mare de Déu de l’Alba (the Madonna of the Dawn) is the image that dominates the temple from the altar. The real scaled original Gothic sculpture was meaningfully burned in 1979. The current image is a copy of the Gothic one that reproduces it with fidelity, holding up a candle on her right hand and with her protectoral behaviour towards the Manresans.

The Madonna devotion is not only a See’s heritage but extended to the whole city. It is told that Ignatius of Loyola, during his stay in Manresa, also devoted her. The Celebration Day takes place during the Assumpció (the Assumption of Mary), in August’s Mare de Déu (Mother of God’s Day).
