the esperit sant

Finally, the bigger and most notable altarpiece is the Esperit Sant, by Pere Serra (1394), one of the great Catalan painters of that period. The Leather-makers Corporation commissioned this, which main motif was to be the descending of the Holy Spirit. All the scenes are bible episodes and refer to this divine manifestation. Twelve of these scenes represent the culminating moments of episodes as known as the birth of the sky and the earth, the creation of Adam, the birth of Jesus, the baptism, the death and resurrection, etc. Down the altarpiece, at the pedrella, the central representation is the Sant Enterrament de Crist (the Holy Burial), which was original from another altarpiece –lost- dedicated to Saint Anthony, by Lluís Borrassà (1410).
